You never forget your first love! Our first ever Seelbach’s Private Reserve was Toasted French Oak and Maple barrels. That was back in September 2021. While I love the releases we’ve done to expand our line since then, there’s no denying it was time to bring this blend back. We built this release from the ground up. We sourced 4-year Kentucky Straight Bourbon from Bardstown, KY. Those barrels aged for 6-months in the Florida heat before they were dumped. After that, we selected and blended a total of 10 barrels. This base blend filled two toasted French Oak barrels and two ex-bourbon Maple syrup barrels. (the rest of the blend was reserved for another project).
The blend entered the finishing barrels in May. This comes as no surprise but it’s been a hot summer! The oak interaction was crazy on this finish. After three months of tasting we decided the finishes were ready to pull. The final blend ended up being 60/40 Toasted French Oak to Maple. The higher percentage of oak added depth and balance to the final blend. This is one of my favorite blends to date. I hope you enjoy it!
