STUDY SPOTLIGHT 🔬

NET Voices is recruiting!

Have you or someone you know been diagnosed with a Neuroendocrine Tumor?

NET Voices is conducting a new study to learn about symptoms and quality of life for patients with Neuroendocrine Tumors. The study team is looking for people with a diagnosis of an advanced Neuroendocrine Tumor that is either metastatic (spread to other organs) or cannot be removed by surgery.

NET Voices is a web-based study!

All study activities can be done at home or wherever you have access to the Internet (on a computer, tablet, phone, etc.). You will be sent a series of surveys every 6 to 12 months for up to 3 years. You can skip any questions that you don’t want to answer or that don’t apply to you. The first 200 participants to complete their baseline surveys you will receive a $20 electronic gift card.

To learn more contact the study team directly at neuroendocrine@ucsf.edu or (415) 353-7683.

The COVID-19 Citizen Science study is coming to a close…

Dear Citizen Scientists,

We want to update you that our COVID-19 Citizen Science (CCS) study is coming to a close. Your involvement and contributions over the past three years have been crucial to the success of this study, and we sincerely thank you for your time, insights, and dedication. You and over 100,000 fellow Citizen Scientists have made a lasting impact.

We do not require any further actions from you at this time. You can catch up on our CCS Podcast here and read about our study milestones over the past few years here:

We look forward to continuing to share our findings with you and hope you consider joining another one of our studies in the near future.

IN THE NEWS 🗞
NIAID / NIH
Genetic cheat code might explain why some people catch Covid but never get sickWe are thrilled to announce that our July research publication in the journal Nature, one of the most internationally acclaimed research journals in science and technology, has garnered attention from multiple news outlets. Recently, research findings from the COVID Citizen Science (CCS) were highlighted in a STAT article discussing the science behind people who have seemingly remained COVID symptom-free despite having tested positive for the virus.

The key is in a gene called HLA, which serves a critical function in determining how your body responds to an infection. By analyzing DNA from more than 1,400 people in the CCS study, they found that some people have a specific mutation in the HLA gene that allowed it to use past infections from common cold coronaviruses to stock up on an arsenal of antibodies and T cells that happened to recognize the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Because their body already has the tools on hand to fight the infection, people with this genetic mutation are able to avoid showing symptoms altogether despite testing positive. This mutation is estimated to be quite common, where 1 in 10 people might have it, and among those who are asymptomatic, that probability rises to 1 in 5.

Enhancing your web experience

We are excited to share that our web platform has undergone some user interface (UI) enhancements to improve your experience.
  • Enhanced navigation. The navigation menus have been thoughtfully redesigned to enhance navigation across all study sites. We have restructured the menu items to make it easier and more intuitive for you to find the information you need.
  • Improved accessibility on survey forms. We have enhanced the font styles and sizes used in web survey forms to improve readability.
  • Streamlined Login and Sign Up. The new login and sign up pages have been carefully redesigned to provide you with a clear path to log in and sign up to your studies.
We often get asked, do I need to create a new account for each study I want to join?

No! You only need one Eureka account to access all your study sites. Our system recognizes you across the board, granting access to all studies you are or may want to be a part of.

Stay tuned for future updates, and thank you for being an essential part of our ongoing improvements!
