It’s hard to picture a watermelon with a yellow interior, but believe it or not, that’s how watermelons used to be. Before modern breeding techniques developed the sweet and juicy watermelons we enjoy today, the interior of watermelons was often yellow or white. While some people may prefer the classic watermelon look with its signature pink and green exterior, it’s interesting to imagine what it might’ve been like to slice into a ripe yellow watermelon for a summertime treat. Who knows, maybe one day yellow watermelons will make a comeback in the produce aisles.
