Before he was elected as the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln was a licensed bartender. He co-owned a tavern in Springfield, Illinois with a man named William Berry. The tavern, which was called Berry and Lincoln, was a popular gathering place for local politicians and lawyers. Lincoln often tended bar there, and he was known for his friendly demeanor and expert bartending skills. In addition to serving drinks, Lincoln would often entertain customers with stories and jokes. In 1833, Lincoln even published a collection of his favorite jokes in a local newspaper. Though he is best known for his political accomplishments, it is clear that Abraham Lincoln had a talent for bartending as well.
