Some kids have to spend their summer months in the hospital because of an illness or injury. Which makes it an especially challenging time for them. They miss out on family vacations, playtime with their friends and many of the activities we take for granted.
But there’s something you can do to help them now and all year.
Today, with your monthly gift during our 2023 Fund for Every Child Summer Drive, you’ll make a lasting impact on the lives of these brave children — like Vincent.
One day, Vincent’s mom, Leanna, noticed her son was lethargic and pale. His skin felt cold to the touch. Alarmed, she rushed him to Children’s National Hospital where neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) doctors discovered Vincent had suffered a series of strokes and bleeding in the right side of his brain.
Quickly, Children’s National called on Dr. Monica Pearl, director of the Neurointerventional Radiology Program, who phoned Leanna as she was driving to the hospital. Dr. Pearl calmly explained what was happening and what to expect.
“I am on my way to help” were some of the most reassuring words Leanna could hear. Dr. Pearl stopped Vincent’s bleeding with an extremely delicate and complex surgery — and he survived. |
