On June 1, 2023, All Voting is Local (All Voting) celebrated its one-year anniversary as an independent organization. As I reflect on the past year, I am grateful for the connections fostered, the growth, and the impact our organization has made and will continue to make on our democracy. I’m particularly appreciative of the partners and supporters who helped us to launch as a campaign in 2018 and since then—especially The Leadership Conference Education Fund, our home for four years. We hope our work continues to make you proud.
In the past year, All Voting has protected and expanded access to registration and voting in our key states amid heightened attacks on voter access; threats of violence directed at voters, advocates, and election officials; and continued efforts to undermine the legitimacy of our elections.
Across the country, our staff is meeting the moment. As we continue our celebration of an eventful and effective year, we recently released our Year One Impact Report for All Voting is Local and All Voting is Local Action (AVL Action): “On the Front Line for Democracy.” To accompany the report, All Voting released several energetic videos on our social channels, and now I am pleased to launch the first edition of our own channel, the Democracy Frontliner. This new communication channel is dedicated to sharing All Voting and AVL Action’s observations about the challenges voters are facing, the policy victories that expand voters’ access to registration and voting and that ensure their votes will count, and the work each organization’s staff is doing on the ground every day, hand in hand with their partners, across eight states: Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
Stay tuned for more as All Voting and AVL Action have a few things up our sleeves coming in the next couple of months. I hope you enjoy it.

Arizona Gov. Hobbs Vetoes Several Bad Election Bills
|
Alongside state partners, AVL Action sent letters to Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs asking her to veto several bad election bills. The bills would have allowed unfettered public access to voting records during live elections and made images of ballots public before certification and recount deadlines. However, the fight continues in light of recent attempts to revive the ballot image portions of one bill, which could be reconsidered when the legislature reconvenes on July 31.

Georgians Push Back Against Two Election Board Nominees
|
AVL Action and Georgia voters stood up against two anti-voter nominees to the Fulton County Registration and Elections Board. Lee Morris withdrew his nomination after an outpouring of resistance from voters, AVL Action, and partners. The nomination of prolific voter challengerJason Frazier also failed by a 3-2 vote. Georgia State Director Kristin Nabers testified and mobilized voters—several of whom Frazier had challenged—to oppose the nomination.

New Nevada Law Protects Election Workers from Bad Actors, Threats, and Violence
|
AVL Action Nevada advocated for SB406 this legislative session. Among other things, the bill would make it a crime to threaten, intimidate, or use violence against election officials and workers. Participating in a coalition led by Silver State Voices (SSV) and the ACLU, AVL Action attended the working group, worked on amendments, and testified in support of the bill. The advocates’ work paid off, as Governor Joe Lombardo signed the bill into law at the end of May.

Wisconsin Election Official Held Accountable for Improper Conduct
|
Together with partners, All Voting is Local Wisconsin successfully held a local election official accountable for abusing his authority by intimidating and harassing student voters. All Voting led efforts to compile detailed evidence from voters of the official’s inappropriate and partisan conduct during the April 2023 election. As a result, he was removed from his role.

Silver State Voices in Nevada has been an integral partner in All Voting’s and AVL Action’s work. The organization’s mission is “to create a more robust democracy by centering our work with historically underrepresented and marginalized communities.” In addition to leading the coalition support of SB406, SSV supports pro-democracy legislation, which consists of everything from language access to protecting voters who are awaiting pre-trial or are detained during an election.
