Residents in Maricopa love to express themselves. Whether it is through music, dance or art, you can always find residents showing off their talents and skills. For Steve and Cynthia Portrey, art makes them feel young again and brings them closer together as a couple.
Maricopa’s art power couple
Steve and Cynthia first moved to Maricopa in 2008. The couple attend several craft shows a year, including the Art 4 the Heart festival, Maricopa Main Street Marketplace events and an artisan show at the Olive Mill in Queen Creek. Under the name Cynful Weaving, Cynthia creates handwoven clothing and home accessories, including soft and colorful scarves, shawls, blankets and other items.
Steve’s work is also filled with color. He creates handcrafted wooden items including bowls and cups infused with color and design, using a technique known as “turned wood,” in which wooden pieces are stacked, carved, shaped and sculpted.
