Updates From Your Club & HOA
Apr 11, 2023
Encanterra Country Club

Dear Members,

As the winter frost fades and the warmth of spring is upon us, we are excited to share all of the progress and updates that have taken place at the Club. Your continued support has made all of the coming renovations and improvements possible, and we cannot express enough gratitude for your loyalty and patronage.

We’ll get into the full updates in a moment, but I wanted to be sure to highlight the work of our Culinary and Golf Maintenance Teams. The culinary team has been focused on creating a new menu for the spring season that is sure to impress. I can’t wait for you all to try it. Over on the golf course, our maintenance team has been working tirelessly to ensure that the course is in the best possible condition going into transition. I can already tell it’s going to be a beautiful summer on the course.

Now, let’s get into the departmental updates:

Golf Operations
With Damian Lane-Lehew, Director of Golf

Firstly, I’d like to share a big congratulations to our Men’s Member-Guest Winners: Roger & Scott Curtis!

Secondly, I’d like to thank all of our Golf Members for an incredible season; it’s hard to believe that it is already coming to a close! In the near future, there will be a survey coming out from the Sports Shop regarding the tournaments, leagues, and major events held this season. We will be looking for your input on these events as well as what types of events, games, or social events you might like to see in the future.

While the tournaments may be done for now, here are a couple of other important dates to keep in mind:

  • Closing Men’s Day – April 12
  • Staff Appreciation Event – April 17

Finally, as we look to summer, the Men’s and Ladies’ Leagues will continue. The plan is to continue to try new games, formats, and shotgun starts each day. We will have other major events like our 4 Club, 4th of July Tournament, and host a few new evening clinics. More information to come soon.

Golf Course Conditions
With Alex Ward, Golf Course Superintendent

Growing grass in the desert southwest is not an ideal situation as there is not one specific grass crop that is suitable for year-round active growth. The warm season Bermuda grass is more favorable for the extreme heat in the summers, but it goes dormant in the cooler winter months producing a yellowish/blond color. Rye grass is a cool season plant that germinates from seed quickly in lower temperatures and provides green color during the winter months, but is not heat tolerant and does not thrive in the hot summer months. In the fall, rye grass is over-seeded into the Bermuda grass base and the rye grass becomes the playing surface for the winter months when the Bermuda grass is dormant. In the spring, when the daylengths increase and the air and soil temperatures begin to rise, the rye grass needs to be “thinned out” and eventually removed to allow the Bermuda grass to come out of dormancy and begin to recover to produce the playing surface for the summer months. There are several practices the maintenance team have already started and will be performing over the next several months and throughout the summer to help with the spring transition, including:

  • Mowing heights will be lowered on roughs, tees, and fairways. This is done to decrease the amount of rye grass and allow sunlight and heat to reach the Bermuda grass  that is underneath. The roughs will be lowered to below 3/4 of an inch, while the fairways and tees will be lowered to below 3/8 of an inch.
  • Cultural practices will be performed including small tine aerification, vertical mowing and slicing, and light topdressing. These practices will be performed throughout the spring and summer months and are done to help “thin out” the rye grass to allow for air, water, and nutrients to get to the Bermuda grass.
  • Water practices like irrigation will be monitored in the spring to discourage rye grass growth and encourage Bermuda grass growth. Irrigation will be deeper and less frequent to promote water getting to the Bermuda grass roots and stolons.
  • Fertilizer and growth regulator applications will be done over several applications of both granular and liquid nutrients throughout the spring. These applications are timed to aid in the transition back to Bermuda grass. Growth regulator applications will be made to slow down the rye grass growth allowing the Bermuda grass to compete. Around the end of May, the remaining rye grass will be chemically removed.

Our goal is to provide an enjoyable, playable golf course through April and May and throughout the transition process. The practices being performed through the spring will have minimal effect on the playability of the golf course.

Food & Beverage
With Cornelius Cover, Director of Food & Beverage

What an incredible month March was here at Encanterra! In addition to our usual service, the food & beverage team was excited to be part of and see so many Members having fun at events like St. Paddy’s Day, Thursday Night Socials, Ladies’ and Men’s Member-Guests, and more!

April is already shaping up to be full of fun including a Jelly Bean Wine Tasting, Thursday Night Socials, and a DAOU Wine Dinner. Easter was a big success and we hope you and your families enjoyed the day.

We have been fortunate enough to add some talented new team members who will help us keep up with increased business levels. We’ve hired new team members in the positions of cook, dishwasher, server, and server assistant. Please also join me in welcoming the two newest members of the Food & Beverage Management Team: Daniel Shields and Sydney Musselman! If you see any new faces around the Club, please say hi and introduce yourself.

Speaking of servers, our team has been studying and taking tests on cocktails and wine, and are always striving to increase their knowledge in the restaurant. Ask them for a recommendation – they’ve got the inside scoop on some of the newer beverage options like the Palma G+T or the Blackberry Jalapeño Margarita.

If wine is more your style, I hope you’ll join us at our HUGE Semi-Annual Wine Showcase event in May. Be on the lookout for sign ups soon. The last wine showcase event was insanely popular and several Members stocked up on wines at great prices to keep them pulling corks all year long!

Finally, as Trish mentioned above, we’re excited to roll out a new menu later this month. We will be adding some new dishes and taking some items off. We plan to change the menu frequently, so if a favorite of yours comes off, let us know, as it could potentially be brought back on a future menu change.

Thanks for all the support; we’ll see you around the Club soon!

Landscape Update

  • Spring blooms! We continue to see fresh new growth and blooms on plants throughout the community.
  • As temperatures warm up, crews will be trimming any frost damage occurring on the more sensitive plants.  While temperatures remain consistently cooler, the damaged stems act as temporary insulation to protect the remainder of the plant.
  • We are happy to report the water conditioning and fertilizer injection system is in place and operating. This new system installed at the irrigation pump station will help manage the irrigation water quality and soil fertility for healthy plant development.

Reminder: To request landscape service for specific areas, homeowners should submit maintenance requests* via www.homeownerresources.com or via the AAM All Access App.  *All maintenance requests are completed in the order received and during regularly scheduled Cycle Weeks.

Michelle’s Community Architectural and Compliance Update

The Encanterra community governing documents provide the Architectural Review Committee (ARC) with sixty (60) days to review and either approve or deny all architectural change submittals.  While given 60 days, our Encanterra ARC endeavors to complete reviews much more quickly so homeowners can begin projects expeditiously.

The ARC will meet twice a month on the first and third Tuesday to review submittals.  The submission deadline for each regularly scheduled meeting is the Wednesday prior to the meeting.

Please plan your projects accordingly to allow ample time for committee review and approval prior to beginning any project.

Encanterra’s Rules, Regulations, and Fine Policies are always available on the MTL website!

Here are some tips to avoid unwanted fines:

  1. Please remember that overnight street parking is prohibited. Violators will receive a $100 fine.
  2. Federal regulations require us to verify the age of homeowners living in our age restricted neighborhoods every two years. If you received a notice for age verification, please email me a copy of your driver’s license, (mwerlinger@associatedasset.com) or present it to us in the HOA office.
  3. If you are not sure about any community guideline or rule, always ask. We are more than happy to help you in any way we can!

As always, thank you for your support and diligence in maintaining our beautiful community!

Sincerely,
