Here are just a few of the Library’s recent accomplishments:
- 2023 started off strong with the news of Harold Hamm’s $50 Million gift to the project
- We moved from our Design and Development phase to the Construction Documents Phase
- Library site zoning application was unanimously approved
- Closed out the year under budget and on schedule
We hope these updates inspire you to continue following our progress as we champion citizenship, conservation, and leadership in the Badlands and beyond.

Interpretive Design and Engagement Update
The Interpretive Design & Engagement team recently rounded the corner on 95% Design Development.
This is when we begin to feel the project coming to life and it becomes possible to see yourself in the designed space.
It is also when we begin playtesting the immersive media elements! The team mocks up the experiences so we can test if the ideas are easy to understand, if they can be built the way we’ve envisioned them, and if they’re FUN.

New Board Members
We are honored to announce that four new board members have been elected to our Board of Trustees (pictured above from top left to bottom right): David Saggau, Hilary Hamm, Chevy Humphrey, and Douglas Brinkley.
David Saggau is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Great River Energy. Hilary Hamm is Director of Federal Affairs & Corporate Sustainability at Continental Resources. Chevy Humphrey is the President and CEO of the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. Douglas Brinkley is the Katherine Tsanoff Brown Chair in Humanities and Professor of History at Rice University.
We are delighted to have these four leaders join our Board. Their unique expertise and their dedication to this historic project will bring fresh perspective and national attention to the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library. 
Dan Muus leads the development team at the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library Foundation. Dan lives in Grand Forks, North Dakota with his wife and three children.
Q: Where are you originally from? What was your favorite part about your childhood?
A: I was born in a small town in Minnesota (Staples), but grew up in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
Q: What has your career and work been focused on thus far?
A: I’ve spent my career in jobs that centered around people and relationships. I started out in banking, then moved to pharmaceutical sales and marketing, and for the last 14 years I’ve worked in development.
Q: What drew you to the TRPL project?
A: It is a once in a lifetime opportunity to work on a project like the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library, and I feel grateful every day I have the opportunity to make this cultural institution a reality in my home state of North Dakota.
Q: What’s your favorite T.R. quote or story?
A: It’s hard to choose just one favorite, so I’ll give you my top two.
“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.”
“Believe you can and you’re halfway there.”
Both quotes are simple and therefore easily applied to every job and every goal a person may have.
Q: What do you like to do for fun?
A: I enjoy golfing, hiking, hunting, and almost anything outdoors with friends and family.
