In Illinois, a new law mandates that Illinois’ “Comprehensive Health Education Program” must include resources for students to access mental health resources, like finding a mental health provider and how to access the mental health system.
In South Carolina, The South Carolina Department of Mental Health (DMH) received a grant that will help expand the state’s mental health screener program. This program will help parents and guardians understand what’s going on in their children’s lives and help aid the state’s suicide and prevention efforts among children under 18.
In Georgia, we are building momentum for lawmakers to expand on 2022’s mental health reforms, with more changes to address the behavioral health workforce shortage, encouraging information sharing across state agencies, increasing the capacity of Georgia’s crisis services system, and more.
Since this past July, the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline received more than 1.7 million calls, texts, and chats – nearly half a million more than the old 10-digit suicide prevention number. But it’s not just more people reaching out, more people are being connected to help faster.
