Hey there,

Fitness gets a lot easier when . . .

  1. You think of exercise mostly as a way to gain muscle and strength and improve health and performance.
  2. You think of diet mostly as a way to nourish your body and control your body fat levels.

Most people get this wrong. 

They think exercise, including strength training, is mainly for sweating and burning calories.

But using sweat to judge the effectiveness of your strength training is like using stroke count to judge the quality of your sex.

And trying to burn as many calories as possible in your strength workouts is like trying to talk as much as possible on a first date.

As for diet?

Most people think of it more as a fire extinguisher for periodically taming the rising flames of routine gluttony rather than a nutritional toolkit for supporting their long-term health and fitness goals.

And how do you use that toolkit? Here are a few tips:

  1. Eat foods you genuinely enjoy.
  2. Eat when you’re hungry, not when you’re bored, frustrated, sad, etc.
  3. Sit when you eat a meal.
  4. No electronics when you eat a meal.
  5. Serve the amount of food you want to eat in a meal on one plate.
  6. Drink water when you eat a meal.
  7. Stop eating a meal when you’re satisfied (even if you haven’t finished everything on your plate), which is often when hunger is diminished, but not necessarily gone—that can take up to 20 minutes longer—and the food doesn’t taste nearly as good as your first few bites.
