We’re starting the year with exciting news, Peter!
First, we want to thank you for helping us reach our end-of-year goal. With your support, we’re already starting off 2023 with our best foot forward.
On the heels of the passage of the bipartisan omnibus bill in December bringing major provisions for mental health care to communities across the country, we are looking forward to what’s next.
Here’s a quick rundown of what was won late last year:
A lifesaving $501.6 million investment in the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline — a nearly $400 million dollar increase from 2022.
Medicare coverage of mobile crisis services so folks don’t have to wait to get the care they need.
A transformative $140 million investment in Project AWARE school-based mental health programs to help children and youth.
AND a much needed $153.0 million investment in the Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training program to increase the supply of mental health professionals.
These investments are crucial to address the mental health crisis in this country, and it’s clear that our work together is paying off. Thank you for everything you did to ensure that mental health care was a priority last year. Now, we have to keep the momentum going as we expand our work to improve mental health care in twice as many states in 2023.
