Peter,

As we wrap up 2022, we’re looking back at what has been a significant year for mental health advocacy. Together, we’ve achieved serious wins that will provide hope for millions of people across the country. Let’s take a closer look at what we achieved…

This year was big. We passed much-needed school-based mental health reforms in Alabama, Delaware, and Illinois and an unprecedented federal investment of $1.24 billion for school mental health. This means more students struggling with their mental health will have access to care.

In another significant development in tackling the mental health crisis, the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (BSCA) included $150 million in funding for the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

Our Mental Health Now campaign delivered big wins for mental health with 622 candidates and elected officials signing a state of support to increase the availability of mental health care for everyone in need, to promote wellness and early intervention by expanding youth mental health services, and to improve crisis response for anyone experiencing a mental health emergency. We look forward to supporting and working with these bipartisan leaders to win better mental health policy across the country.

We’re also holding our breath as we wait for Congress to finish up the remaining days of this session. We’re expecting an omnibus bill that will include several of our mental health priorities.

We’re proud to see this progress–and grateful for your help. Our country is facing a mental health crisis with depression and anxiety on the rise. But these achievements show us that by working together, we can make real progress in achieving mental health policy changes that better care for every American’s mental health.
