All-Star third baseman Austin Riley has been named a finalist for the 2022 Hank Aaron Award, an honor that recognizes the best overall offensive performer in each league! The Hank Aaron Award was introduced in 1999 to mark the 25th anniversary of Aaron breaking Babe Ruth’s all-time home run record.
Riley led the National League in both extra-base hits (79) and total bases (325). Within the month of July, his 26 extra-base hits set a new franchise record for most in a month. Hank Aaron himself held the previous record, hitting 25 in July 1961. Those 26 extra-base hits were the most in MLB in a single month this season.
Voting is open now through Monday, October 24.
