Find out who’s calling – get the name of the person as well as the organization, and be mindful of names similar to well-known organizations. Just because the name sounds good, doesn’t mean the organization is.
Ask where the donation goes – more specifically, how much of your donation goes to programs.
Check their rating on Charity Navigator!
Donate how you’re comfortable – whether it’s logging in online or mailing a check, don’t feel pressured to give your information over the phone.
Ask to be removed if you don’t want to have more calls – keep in mind Do Not Call lists do not apply to nonprofit organizations, so you’ll need to let them know directly.
