The 5-year offshore leasing program does just that. Supported by the U.S. Secretary of the Interior for over 40 years, this program supports tens of thousands of jobs, makes oil and natural gas affordable for our families and contributes to environmental protection efforts in all 50 states.
Here’s the problem. Due to bureaucratic delays, this 5-year program is at risk of not being renewed. This is a serious threat to our economy and livelihoods. Without renewal, America will lose:
- Nearly 60,000 jobs
- Safe production of 500,000 barrels of oil per day
- $5 billion in U.S. GDP
- $900 million directed towards the Land and Water Conservation Fund
- $375 million for state and local governments
