Fall into Army History! Special Exhibition Gallery Reopening
September 17th and 18th, celebrate the opening of So Ready for Laughter, The Legacy of Bob Hope, as the Museumreopens the Special Exhibition Gallery with the latest the travelling exhibit produced by The National WWII Museum with national sponsor Bob & Dolores Hope Foundation. A special thanks to the exhibit’s local sponsor, The Army Historical Foundation (AHF) as they host a weekend of themed activities celebrating the spirit of Bob Hope, an iconic entertainer who brought moments of joy and laughter to millions of service members over 50 years. October 20th, join The Army Historical Foundation at the Fort Belvoir Officers Club for our “Ready to Laugh, Ready to Swing” Golf Tournament in celebration of this latest exhibit. Individual, organizational, corporate, and community supporters are invited to join in the fun! The tournament will be a shotgun start with a catered breakfast and lunch provided at the club house. Highlight: Fall Vietnam Battle Ride, Museum Movie, & Symposium
On Saturday, September 24, AHF will host a Battle Ride to the Battleship New Jersey Memorial & Museum and American Helicopter Museum & Education Center to present a Vietnam era program focused on land, air, and sea. Battle Ride participants will learn about joint operations between the Army and Navy during the Tet Offensive aboard the Navy’s most decorated battleship and world’s only battleship in operation during the Vietnam War. October 1, Based on the best-selling book “We Were Soldiers Once…and Young” by Lt. Gen. Harold G. Moore (Ret.) and journalist Joseph L. Galloway, this compelling war drama depicts the true story of the first major battle between the United States and North Vietnamese forces. It is a film about uncommon valor and nobility under fire, loyalty among Soldiers, and the heroism and sacrifice of men and women both home and abroad. Learn more.
October 21-22, join historians, veterans and educators for a look back at the Vietnam War era and the Soldier experience during the 2022 Symposium: The Vietnam War in History and Memory. This two-day symposium invites attendees to explore and discuss Soldier experiences in battle, and in their camps, through examining works of art, artifacts, personal Soldier accounts and U.S. Army history. The symposium also includes a presentation about the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund’s traveling exhibit, “Panel 44: 8 Days in March,” and an evening reception hosted by AHF. Learn more.
