When to Submit Your Medical Forms (I-693) to USCIS

Dear Stakeholder,

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is making good progress in the processing of employment-based immigrant visas for fiscal year 2022, which ends on September 30, 2022. Through July 31, 2022, USCIS and the Department of State have combined to use 210,593 employment-based immigrant visas.

In case you missed it, the agency recently shared some important reminders about when to submit a Form I-693, Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record if you filed or are planning to file an employment-based Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status.

If you have a pending employment-based Form I-485, only submit a Form I-693 if and when USCIS asks you to do so.USCIS will contact you to request your Form I-693. Sending your form in advance of that request will result in a delay in the adjudication of your case.

Why This Matters

USCIS is working hard to use all available employment-based immigrant visas this fiscal year. Providing Form I-693 reminders is one of many steps USCIS is taking to accomplish this goal. During the CIS Ombudsman’s engagements, stakeholders have expressed concerns that USCIS did not use all available employment-based immigrant visas in previous years. We appreciate the stakeholders who shared their concerns and support USCIS’ efforts to use all the available visas this year.
