Hi RJ,
America’s natural gas and oil producers are ready to meet increasing global energy demand but need a comprehensive energy policy that lays the foundation for long-term growth. Unfortunately, President Biden continues to send mixed signals about his commitment to boost American energy independence.
A recent example? On July 1st, The Department of the Interior released its proposed 5-year program for federal offshore leasing. Instead of providing certainty and a pathway for more domestic production, this draft program threatens to schedule no offshore lease sales in the coming 5 years.
Since the start of 2021, energy prices have hit all-time highs and Americans are struggling to make ends meet. Our government must provide energy leadership and support – not throw up new roadblocks. The Biden Administration’s recently proposed 5-year program for federal offshore leasing could continue cutting off opportunities for domestic energy production at the knees at a time when we need it most.
It’s time for President Biden to stand up for American energy, American workers, and American consumers and quickly finalize Interior’s decision on future offshore oil and gas lease sales. We have the capacity to produce the energy we need right here at home. All it takes is the commitment from policymakers, from the President down to Congress and the States.
