The health of our minds is inseparable from the health of our bodies.
We have a mission to empower a strong social movement to win better mental health policy. This is especially important at a time when health insurance plans continue to violate the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act, a federal law which prohibits unfair coverage of mental health and substance use conditions.
We need to shift the conversation around this issue and build a community of people who come together, regardless of politics, to make sure people get the mental health care they are entitled to. Everyone needs to have fair coverage of mental health and substance use treatment.
Millions of Americans could have better mental health care if parity were properly enforced. Without enforcement, health insurance plans fail to deliver parity mental health and substance use disorder benefits.
Parity enforcement is essential. We need to show Congress that mental health is health and that we need to prioritize mental health care as highly as physical health care.
