Yesterday, a bipartisan group of 20 senators took a major step forward by releasing a framework to address gun violence and our nation’s mental health crisis.
The details of the legislation are still being worked on, but the outline of legislation includes Inseparable’s priorities of expanding school mental health services, improving crisis response, and increasing access to telehealth and community mental health care. This would be a major step forward in addressing our mental health crisis.
Now, we need your help to ensure Congress gets this over the finish line.
Since the Uvalde shooting, Inseparable has been providing policy and funding ideas to senators negotiating the proposal, and we are thrilled to see major investments in increasing access to mental health and suicide prevention, school-based mental health services, and crisis response services — representing investment across all three of Inseparable’s major priority areas.
Now we need to make sure Congress acts immediately, while there is momentum for change.

Subject: [THIS WEEKEND] Congress needs to hear from us
Today is a critical day to act and we need you to do one thing to help kids across the country.
Our current youth mental health crisis continues to grow. More children are reporting feelings of hopelessness or sadness and suicide is now the second leading cause of death among 10 to 24-year-olds, according to a report by the CDC.
Lives are at stake and now is the time for change.
Across the country, there is a clear lack of funding in schools for mental health. By investing in more school mental health programs and professionals, we’d be able to directly help youth who are seeking mental health treatment.
No matter where they are, children should have access to mental health support 24/7. That is why Congress also needs to support the development of child-specific crisis services, including mobile crisis teams across the country. By doing so, children can get the right response at the right time.
While there have been talks of funding these solutions in Congress, there has been no action. We can’t wait, Peter. Now, it’s time for our representatives in Congress to act to relieve our youth’s mental health crisis.
It’s okay to not be okay. If you or someone you know needs help, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255). Crisis Text Line also provides free, 24/7, confidential support via text message to people in crisis when they text HOME to 741741.
