Casa Grande and Maricopa were recently named two of the top 10 fastest-growing larger citiesin the nation. That growth is starting to pinch in places. At a recent Maricopa City Council meeting, residents again raised concerns about a developer’s request to build a new five-story apartment complex near Porter Road and Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway. Traffic was the main issue raised by residents. The council had similar concerns and the vote to approve the project was split 5 to 2.
The city of Maricopa also has a new app that can alert motorists that emergency vehicles are coming their way before they see the flashing lights in their rearview mirror. Safety Cloud is an app that works with smartphones and the smart dashboard screens of some newer vehicles to alert drivers that police and fire vehicles may be heading in their direction.
And speaking of emergency vehicles, the Arizona City Fire District and Casa Grande Fire Department are investigating two fires that happened recently. The Casa Grande Fire Department responded to a brush fire Thursday evening at Casa Grande Mountain. And the Arizona City Fire District responded to a house fire on Sunday.
Also, you may have missed this headline on Friday: Two former Toltec School officials have been indicted by a grand jury on various charges of fraudulent schemes, misuse of public monies and theft. The charges come as a result of an investigation by the Arizona Auditor General into the district’s operating agreement with World School Foundation. The foundation was an organization created and run allegedly by the two school officials. |
