ImPORTant Thune Bill Passes Senate

ImPORTant Thune Bill Passes Senate

Fellow South Dakotan,

All 100 U.S. senators just approved my bipartisan bill to help tackle supply chain slowdowns and level the playing field for American farmers, exporters, and consumers. The current supply chain crisis has heightened the importance of addressing shipping challenges. Right now, South Dakota producers, small businesses, and consumers are feeling the effects of unfair ocean carrier practices – whether it’s a refusal to carry certain cargoes or discrimination against certain commodities for export.

The improvements made by my bill would bring long-term positive changes to the maritime supply chain by making it harder for ocean carriers to unreasonably refuse goods, including South Dakota agricultural products, that are ready to export at U.S. ports. These changes would also benefit consumers by promoting the fluidity and efficiency of the supply chain.

In Case You Missed It

I spoke on the Senate floor today after my Ocean Shipping Reform Act of 2022 was unanimously approved. Watch my full remarks here.

What’s Next?

We must do everything we can to address supply chain slowdowns and tear down roadblocks to exporting American-made goods. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the House to send this legislation to the president’s desk as soon as possible.

All the best,
