Peter, our children are struggling with overwhelming anxiety, depression, and worse. Youth mental health was a crisis before the pandemic, and it’s now more urgent than ever.
Even as this crisis grows, few states are prioritizing mental health support in schools. Resources like teacher trainings, enough school mental health professionals, and well-being checks are lacking in many states, causing mental health problems to only get worse in our children.
We know how devastating this crisis is and in response, we’ve been advocating for the improvement of mental health resources with our Hopeful Futures Campaign. We’re pushing our representatives for crucial resources that can finally help our children.
We need stronger state support for children’s mental health now. If kids are able to get support in K-12 schools then we can realize a future where no child suffers needlessly.
That’s why we have been working to increase mental health resources in schools across every state. From doing policy research to getting legislation passed, we will do what it takes to get this done and resolve this crisis.
Our next step is getting your feedback to see what our lawmakers need to be doing for their communities.
It’s okay to not be okay. If you or someone you know needs help, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255). Crisis Text Line also provides free, 24/7, confidential support via text message to people in crisis when they text HOME to 741741.
