I first got involved in public service to ensure that all Americans, regardless of personal circumstances, have the opportunity to succeed. My decision to run for office was inspired in large part by my advocacy to ensure that my son Ben, who experiences severe disabilities, and other kids like him would have the same opportunities as their peers.

Serving Granite Staters as State Senator, Governor, and now U.S. Senator has been the honor of my life. But it wasn’t an easy road to get here.
In 2016, I won by only 1,017 votes in one of the closest Senate races in history. Now, as we look to 2022, Republicans only need to flip one seat to take control of the Senate and I’m at the top of their list of targets. As Senator I’ve worked across party lines to get results on the top priorities of hard-working Granite Staters, introducing more than 50 bipartisan bills on issues like providing tax credits for innovative companies and supporting veterans as they transition back to civilian life. And, when the Senate was on the verge of repealing the Affordable Care Act, I cast one of the deciding votes to protect it.
