When I joined the Navy at just 17 years old, I had no idea where my decision would take me.
I didn’t know that I would make history as one of the first women to serve the entirety of her career on combatant ships, or that I would eventually command a combat-ready unit of 400+ sailors – I just knew that I wanted to give back, to be a part of something bigger than myself.
But that’s exactly how change happens. Everyday people, like you and me, who make the choice to take action and do what they can to make the world a better place.
I ran for Congress as a first-time candidate in 2018 for the same reason I joined the Navy – to give back and help build a safer, stronger, and fairer society for this generation and the next.
Our real work is just beginning. But I can’t do it alone – so Jane, I’m asking you today to stand with me on behalf of Coastal Virginians and hard-working Americans across the country:
I’m not a career politician – I’m a veteran and former small business owner who wants to be able to look my daughter in the eye and say that I stepped forward when my country needed me.
But I didn’t get to Congress by myself. Our team defied the odds and flipped VA-02 in 2018 because of supporters like you who refused to back down – and that’s how we went toe-to-toe with the full force of the GOP establishment and millions in dark money to hold this seat in 2020.
It was all of us, deciding that we wanted to fight for the honest, accountable representation we deserved and putting everything we had into making it happen.
But this is one of the most competitive seats in the nation, and I’m truly relying on everyday people like you to help me defend it – will you join our team in the fight to protect our healthcare, tackle the climate crisis, and get our economy up and running again?
I’m not giving up on the fight. And I know you won’t either.
