Good morning RJ,
We’ve got plenty of headlines to catch up on this morning, starting with a traffic stop on Interstate 8 near Casa Grande, which resulted in the search of a Honda sedan that had been traveling west on the interstate, and led to state troopers seizing more than 26 pounds of cocaine. The 22-year-old female driver was also taken into custody on possession and transportation charges.
In other news, citing the high rise in COVID cases in the new year, the Casa Grande Union High School District says it will continue to enforce an indoor mask requirement indefinitely.
And the case of a former Central Arizona Valley Institute of Technology teacher accused of misconduct with a minor after police found him and an underaged student in the back of a van together in 2018 has come to a close. Brian Sharp, former fire science instructor at CAVIT, will serve jail time as part of his sentence issued by a Pinal County Superior Court judge this week.
Finally, here are a few of the latest updates from the crime beat:
- An Apache Junction man accused of killing two people at an AJ trailer park in 2016, and concealing their bodies, has been sentenced to more than 40 years in prison on charges of hindering prosecution (among others). However, no verdict was reached on the two counts of first-degree murder charges against him.
- The Maricopa Police Department arrested a woman for driving a stolen vehicle and possession of about 46 grams of methamphetamine.
- An Arizona City man has been charged with 10 counts of misconduct with a minor for incidents dating back to 2009.
