Feb. 1, 2022 |
When I joined University of Phoenix in 2017, I was excited to lead one of the foremost higher education institutions in our country and be a part of shaping its future. We’ve certainly come far over nearly five years, even during a life-changing pandemic. I initially envisioned a retirement horizon of three years, with this being my career-culminating role. However, we’ve had much to do, and I’ve been so inspired by the grit and determination of all of you, and the dedication and focus of our staff and faculty, that I stayed on far beyond that original target date. Last fall, however, I did inform our Board of Trustees that I wished to move toward retirement at the beginning of 2022. I feel this is the right time for me to transition to the role of president emeritus, where I will continue to support the board and leadership at an advisory and strategic level. |
We are fortunate to welcome a seasoned higher education leader, who shares our passion for serving working adults. Please join me in welcoming George A. Burnett as the next president of University of Phoenix. His first day is today, Feb. 1, 2022. |
Recently, George served as executive vice chairman of Academic Partnerships, which supports public universities’ online degree programs. He is also a former president and CEO of Northcentral University, a regionally accredited institution. He currently serves as a board observer at Universidad Europea, based in Madrid. He earned his BA from Dartmouth College and his MBA from Dartmouth’s Amos Tuck School. |
George shared this sentiment about assuming the presidency of University of Phoenix: “I am so honored to be joining University of Phoenix, a leader in online lifelong learning. This is a pivotal time in higher education and the University is well positioned to continue to help adult learners enhance their careers through higher education and skills building. I’m eager to get started, join this dedicated team of faculty and staff, and begin this humble service on behalf of you, our students and alumni.” |
We’re excited for President Burnett to begin his service too. In closing, I’m very grateful for an amazing four and half years of service to UOPX, and an incredible way to conclude my full-time, professional career. I will greatly enjoy watching the continued success of this fine institution as I begin my next chapter. |
And again, please join me in a big welcome to President George Burnett. |
Warm Regards, |
