For democracy, or against. On Saturday, members of the King family marched in Phoenix with Arizonans in support of ending the filibuster and passing federal voting rights legislation. Senator Kyrsten Sinema continues to stand in the way by supporting the filibuster, and gave a speech reiterating her position on the Senate floor on Thursday. Voting rights legislation is an urgent important priority for most Democrats, as Republican Arizona state legislators introduced dozens of anti-voter bills in the last week and Trump held a rally around overturning the 2020 election.

State of the state. Gov. Doug Ducey gave his state of the state address, ignoring the COVID-19 crisis and bragging about his flat tax which cuts almost $2B from state revenue. See our recap here.

March in Phoenix. Check out this footage from the Deliver for Voting Rights Rally in Phoenix, where family members of Martin Luther King Jr. gave powerful speeches condemning Sinema’s support of the filibuster.

Demand remote testimony! Because of the pandemic, in 2021, the state legislature allowed remote testimony. Our state legislature starts Monday and for the 2022 session, they are backsliding and shutting the people out by eliminating the option to provide remote testimony. Our laws should be made openly, publicly, and with input from all of our communities. Write to your state legislator and demand that remote testimony be brought back permanently!
