A former probationary firefighter filed a lawsuit against the Casa Grande Fire Department late last year, and according to documents filed in U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona, a settlement may now be in the works. In the original complaint, the firefighter detailed he was hired in 2019 and he notified the department that he is a disabled veteran who takes medication for mental health illnesses brought on by his military service, but that the department failed to discuss his needs or offer any accommodations for his disability. With more and more infrastructure going up within the boundaries of Coolidge, the city has faced an interesting challenge: finding the manpower to locate utility lines for the added development, with officials estimating that the city sees 30-60 areas a day that need to be blue-staked to show where utility lines are located. The council is hoping to address the issue with a new professional services agreement.
