Progress Arizona

Dear Rj,

Over the last few decades, a handful of billionaires have accumulated fortunes so obscenely vast that they’re almost impossible to spend.

Don’t take our word for it. Take a few minutes to try a new mini-game and see for yourself: can you spend an Arizona billionaire’s fortune?

You’ll start with the fortune of Ernest Garcia II, who was worth more than twenty billion dollars as of August 2021. His money comes from his role in companies like Drivetime and Carvana, and he’s one of 12 billionaires who live in Arizona.

Choose from a selection of luxury Arizona goods and experiences and find out: with that much money, is it even possible to spend it all?

Try the challenge!

Right now, Democrats in Washington, DC are debating whether to raise taxes on the richest people in America to pay for programs to reduce the cost of healthcare, childcare, housing, clean energy and more.

It’s long past time to demand that billionaires to pay their fair share. These fortunes are so obscenely vast — it’s ludicrous to think that we can’t make them pay just a bit more in taxes each year. Take the challenge and see what we mean!

Sincerely,

Emily Kirkland
Executive Director, Progress Arizona

PS: Shout-out to the many earlier versions of this game – especially “Spend Elon Musk’s Fortune” and “Spend Bill Gates’ Money” – for the inspiration!
