As of late September, water levels at the San Carlos Reservoir near Globe reached only 37,000 acre-feet, leaving little water for farmers and their crops. According to the irrigation district, monsoons didn’t help as much as you might think.

Plus, as reservoirs like San Carlos continue to dry up throughout the Southwest, sustaining groundwater will become a vital tactic for Arizona. A new report released by the San Carlos Apache Tribe shows that the proposed Resolution Copper mine would use billions of gallons of water over the mine’s lifetime — much of it coming from groundwater. 

Where have all the teachers gone? A new survey shows that Arizona’s teacher shortage is only getting worse. The problem has gotten so challenging that, according to the data, 55% of all vacancies school districts managed to fill for this academic year were filled by people who are not certified educators.  

Also, is it fact or science fiction? The 90-year-old William Shatner, known for his portrayal of Captain Kirk, blasted into space earlier this morning onboard a ship built by Jeff Bezos.
