Exercise: When to see your doctor
Here’s a good health rule of thumb: When in doubt, check it out. If you’re unsure of your health status, have multiple health problems or are pregnant, talk with your doctor before starting a new exercise program. Working with your doctor ahead of time is a good way to plan an exercise program that’s right for you. Consider it the first step on your path to physical fitness.

Warm up before you work out
Before each exercise session, warm up for 5 to 10 minutes to gradually rev up your cardiovascular system and increase blood flow to your muscles. Try a low-intensity version of your planned activity. For example, if you’ve planned a brisk walk, warm up by walking slowly.
