Every year, sororities and fraternities at ASU participate in Greek Week, a weeklong philanthropy competition that builds community and raises funds for organizations doing incredible work around the Valley and beyond.
This year’s Greek Week was held in April. ASU fraternity and sorority men and women squared off into teams and engaged in friendly competition to raise money for Valley of the Sun United Way and Amanda Hope Rainbow, perform acts of service for their community and educate themselves on different cultures present in Greek life.

Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. was founded on Jan. 9, 1914, by three Black, male students at Howard University. Founders Honorable A. Langston Taylor, Honorable Leonard F. Morse and Honorable Charles I. Brown wanted to create an organization that benefited the general community and upheld three core principles: brotherhood, scholarship and service.
One hundred and seven years later, ASU’s Lambda Xi chapter of Phi Beta Sigma still lives by those three words.

Camrynne Karr has experienced a lot during her time at ASU, and it all led to discovering how she wanted to make a difference in the world. Karr is in her final year at ASU as a sustainability major with a minor in Spanish. Originally from Roseville, California, Karr found community within her sorority, clubs and the School of Sustainability.
Karr joined Kappa Kappa Gamma after two years of not wanting to join a sorority due to the negative stereotypes she had heard. However, after going through the process, she realized that she had picked the right house and was right where she needed to be.
“The girls who I got to interact with during recruitment were so down to earth and honest that I got a very good feel for the chapter I would be joining. I align very well with the values of our chapter, and I am very happy to say that I made the right decision for me,” Karr said.

Latina sisterhood, leadership in Greek life and fantastic coursework at the Thunderbird School of Global Management was a powerful mix for Carolina Tovar, who graduated this spring with her master’s degree in global management from Arizona State University.
Originally from Veracruz, Mexico, Tovar grew up in a small town in Arkansas. In college, she majored in global digital transformations and digital audience strategy.
Tovar has been part of Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, Inc and was the management intern for the Greek Leadership Village. Part of her role there was to work with the Greek Leadership Village assistants, who are student leaders who live in the GLV to build community and help students connect to resources.

ASU graduate Suzannah Whitlatch is finishing up her time at ASU with global ambitions.
Whitlatch graduated this spring with her master’s degree in global management, through which she homed in on an interest in global equity through business development. Originally from Tucson, she was a member of Chi Omega as an undergraduate at the University of Denver and worked as a management intern for the Greek Leadership Village.
Whitlatch says she loved working in the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life while in graduate school.

The Greek community, while looking different this year, continues to thrive at ASU, and we ask all alumni to help support the community whenever they can. As a reminder, you can give directly to the community by purchasing a plaque on the legacy wall, which allows you to recognize a fellow alum or graduating student for their leadership in the community.
You can also support students through the Jennifer Hightower Memorial Fund. Established last year to honor late Vice President of Student Services and ASU Chi Omega alumna Jennifer Hightower, the fund supports scholarships for students and the Greek Leadership Community Center and furthers Fraternity and Sorority Life programs at ASU.
