AWLA Weekly Walker

The Animal Control team experienced a wild first — an owl and a turtle stuck together!

When Officer Robinson answered a call about an owl that was unable to fly, he did not expect a turtle to be involved as well!
He arrived on the scene and discovered that the owl’s talon was actually clamped between the turtle’s carapace and plastron — the top and bottom shell.
Can you believe it?!

He brought them both back to the shelter where he and Chief Toussaint gently separated the two. Click here to check out the video!

The owl had a minor injury and the turtle was thankfully uninjured! Both are now safe and sound with a licensed wildlife rehabber who will care for them until they can be released back into the wild.
When you Walk for the Animals, you walk for all animals — including our wildlife neighbors! With your support, our furry and feathered (and scaly) friends get the resources, care, and protection they need to survive and thrive.

This week’s Heroes from Home: the AWLA campers!

A group of AWLA summer campers made enrichment toys for the small companion animals at the shelter — and they’re superhero-themed, of course! The kids stuffed safely decorated, cardboard tubes with tasty fruit and hay for the guinea pigs and bunnies to nibble and forage.

What superheroes can you spot!?

It’s so fun to see kids getting involved with this year’s Walk for the Animals! Are you getting inspired?!
