This Week With Gosar…

WASHINGTON D.C. – Here’s our top stories…

Democrats Double Down on Immigration Chaos

Pair of Wreckless Amnesty Bills Pass Through House:

Last week House Democrats rammed through two amnesty bills on the House floor: H.R. 6, the American Dream and Promise Act, and H.R. 1603, the Farm Workforce Modernization Act. Taken together, these amnesty bills would legalize more illegal aliens than the 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act amnesty legislation and give Mr. Biden his signature immigration promise.

The American Dream and Promise Act places so-called “Dreamers,” Temporary Protected Status (TPS) recipients, and others on a pathway to citizenship in exchange for exactly zero substantive enforcement measures. The bill provides amnesty to nearly three million illegal aliens. Further, the bill contains no enforcement provisions to address the current crisis on the southern border.

The Farm Workforce Modernization Act is an effort to provide amnesty to over two million illegal alien farmworkers, despite already having an unlimited agricultural guestworker program, the H-2A. Notwithstanding the catchy title, the bill does nothing to actually modernize America’s agricultural workforce. Despite the assertions by some of my colleagues, nothing in the bill “modernizes” America’s agricultural workforce. True modernization of U.S. agriculture would entail providing farmers with incentives to invest in mechanization and automation of their farms, reducing the need for immigrant workers in the first place. These efforts would enhance American agricultural competitiveness – this amnesty does not.

There is a reason that Nancy Pelosi wants Congress to vote on these two bills on the same day. They are related, and both bills will give illegal aliens a pathway to citizenship. When combined, these two bills will provide amnesty to more than 5 million illegal aliens. Worse still, they will have accomplished this in the middle of a border crisis that the Mr. Biden and his administration created and are choosing to ignore. Large-scale amnesty for illegal aliens would be bad policy, even under the best of circumstances.

I voted against both bills. To learn more about these two bills, click HERE to read an opinion editorial I recently penned.

Gosar Joins Colleagues to Express Concern with Biden’s Border Crisis

House Freedom Caucus Sounds the Alarm:

Last week, nearly two dozen of my colleagues and I held a press conference to highlight how Mr. Biden and congressional Democrats are fueling the ongoing humanitarian crisis on our southern border.  In particular, I spoke about the crisis in Yuma County which runs along the southern border in my district.  As many of you know, Yuma is ground zero in the Biden-created border crisis. Biden’s decision last month to release illegal aliens into Yuma County on a daily basis has opened up the spigot of border crossings. Now, my worst fears are coming true: illegal aliens are flooding into Yuma.

Gosar Speaks on House Floor  to Explain his Opposition to Democrat Amnesty Bills

Special Order:

Last Thursday, after House Democrats rammed through their two amnesty bills, I took to the House floor to share my concerns with the American people.

It is shocking to me that House Democrats’ answer to the Biden-created border crisis was to take up legislation that would give amnesty plus a path towards citizenship to more than five million illegal aliens. This is like pouring gasoline on a wildfire. We should be enforcing the immigration laws we have on the books.  We should not be giving amnesty to millions of illegal aliens. Mr. Biden should never have halted final construction of the border wall.

Unfortunately, Democrats’ hatred for President Trump cloud their ability to work together towards common-sense reforms.  Instead, Democrats rammed their radical amnesty legislation through Congress. What’s happening in Yuma and all along the southern border is unconscionable.

Gosar Invites Mr. Biden to Yuma County

Open Invitation:

The Biden Administration doesn’t seem to understand or simply won’t admit that there is a crisis along the southern border.  Just this week, the White House Press Secretary walked backed acknowledging the crisis by referring to it as only a “challenge.” At a House Homeland Security Committee hearing this week, the Department of Homeland Security Secretary would only refer to what is happening as “complex.” Mr. Biden himself refuses to acknowledge that it is crisis, despite it being a crisis he created by his decisions to open our southern border, ignore immigration enforcement laws and halt the completion of construction of the wall.

Mr. Biden has turned a blind eye to the crisis he created along the southern border. That’s why on Friday, I sent a letter directly to Mr. Biden inviting him to join me in Yuma County in my district which runs along the southern border and is being pummeled by never-ending waves of illegal migrant crossings.

I’m hoping if he takes me up on my offer, we can begin to reverse the bad policies Mr. Biden has put in place that have encouraged migrants to flood our border.

Gosar Speaks to Women for Arizona March Meeting

Providing a Congressional Update:

At the beginning of the week, I had the honor of speaking to nearly 120 people who attended the Women of Arizona’s March Meeting in Cave Creek, Arizona. The focus of the meeting was the important topic of election integrity, which is eroding before our eyes. Fair and transparent elections are the bedrock of democracy. Unfortunately, there is a concentrated effort taking place in Congress to remove accountability from future elections by radically altering our election methods. Thank you to the Women of Arizona for inviting me. It was great seeing so many people united by a common goal of preserving election integrity.

Happy Birthday to James Madison!

The Father of Our Constitution:

On March 16 we celebrated the anniversary of James Madison’s birthday. Madison, America’s fourth President and commonly referred to as the “Father of the United States Constitution,” is also seen by many as a defender of open government. He once wrote, ” Knowledge will forever govern ignorance. A people who mean to be their own Governors, must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives… The advancement and diffusion of knowledge” is the only Guardian of true liberty,” –James Madison.

So often today we take our great Constitution and the words contained within it for granted. Take a moment this week to dust off your pocket Constitution and the Federalist Papers and reread those inspiring words. If you have children or grandchildren, do it with them. In a world where the English language is being twisted and contorted to suit political fancies, it is like a breath of fresh air to go back and read our founding documents. Happy Birthday to James Madison!

Other Highlights From This Week

Pelosi’s Payoff to Progressives disguised as “COVID-19 relief” included ambiguous language prohibiting states from implementing new tax cuts through 2024. This could be construed as a violation of the Tenth Amendment by impeding states from making the best choices for its citizens. I joined my Republican colleagues in a letter to the Treasury Department raising concerns and seeking clarification.

The 30 by 30 rule, a Biden administration policy to lock up 30% of our lands and waters by 2030, lacks details and is being spearheaded by radical environmentalists. The West would be unfairly targeted by this plan by undermining private property rights and locking up more land.   My Western Caucus colleagues and I sent a letter to Mr. Biden raising our concerns and requesting additional information.  I have consistently maintained that public lands should be multi-use.  Americans should be able to hike, hunt or fish and others should be able to responsibly thin forests or develop other resources to the maximum extent possible.   Locking up public lands so no person can ever use them is immoral and wasteful.

The United States Postal Service (USPS) needs operational reform to ensure its solvency. After a year of whipping up false conspiracies about the USPS, Democrats introduced a bill which fall short or the necessary reforms needed to ensure its future solvency.  I sent a letter to the Postmaster Generalexpressing my desire to review his yet-to-be released business reform plan to determine which, if any measures should be supported and incorporated into prospective legislation.
